Something Older

Ok, so I apparently didn’t realize you can’t wear sleep masks during a wedding, so I had to make another something old for Lauren. This is all implying that she is following traditions and wants to wear something old.

And in this case, a garter thingy. I don’t really understand the garter tradition so if someone wants to google it and tell me, that would be fabulous.

I used the same lingerie robe that I don’t have a before picture of, so you can just picture some pink satiny things. Also, I didn’t have any elastic so I used the elastic bits from my old mattress pad. (I think I MacGyver the shit out of my crafts.)(Or maybe I MacGruber them.)

I sewed the elastic to the pink satiny robe  and then the thing looked like a pink satin scrunchie. Don’t scrunchies always make you think of that part in Sex and the City when Carrie tells Berger that New York women don’t wear scrunchies and then you’re afraid to ever criticize anything a man does ever again?

Once I had that sewn up, I sewed some lace that I have lying in my “To Sew” trunk to it. Yes, I have a “To Sew” trunk. It’s witty because it rhymes with “To Do” and yes, I made that up just now.

Then I made some pink satiny flowers using this technique and then sewed them to the garter snake. So, has anyone used a garter snake as their garter? I think that would be pretty cool and ironic and hipster.

Also there are some plastic crystal facet beads sewn as the flower stigma. Stigma? is that right? At least this garter is not pollenated. Freaking grass pollen right now. I’m soo stuffed up :(

I think that’s a really pretty picture that I could use if I wanted to sell stuff on Etsy. Satin is shiny. I like shiny.

Something Old

You know I’ve always been into arts and crafts. When I was a junior, I lived with this girl Lauren. Said Lauren is now getting married soon and having a pseudo-bachelorette party weekend in Chicago starting Friday!

When we lived together, Lauren gave me a bunch of lingerie that her aunt got for a bachelorette party or something I think. That she never used obviously hopefully. What I used for this particular craft is not pictured but it came from the same bunch of lingerie! I know that is super helpful when you’re trying to picture the before. It was a pink satiny robe with a cream colored lining. Yeah. Exactly like the picture.

For part of her bachelorette party gift, I decided to make her a sleep mask. I used part of my old mattress pad because I wanted to a quilted pattern. YES I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY QUILTED SOMETHING!!!

I used the cream lining to edge the sleep mask. It’s going to be perfect for all those sleepless nights on the honeymoon ;) To fasten securely around her head, I added an elastic band.

And yeah, I had to try it on.

So cute, right?? #somethingOld though technically not for a wedding. Like Justin Timberlake tells us, “What goes around goes around goes around goes around comes back around.”

Grilled Tomatoes and Guacamole

I know I’ve been the lamest blogger ever, but it’s my blog, so you can deal with it, Mom. Just kidding. My mom doesn’t remember my blog name ever.

Today, after I had eaten my leftovers from Wang’s Kitchen in Toronto (wedding season, what what!), I realized that I was still pretty hungry for something not carby. I had an avocado in the fridge, along with a tomato, but instead of doing what a normal person would and put a chopped tomato with avocado to make guacamole, I instead did something different.

I chopped up the avocado and garlic and put them in bowl. I sliced a tomato but didn’t put that in the bowl. Duh. I said that I didn’t mix them together already, weren’t you paying attention? Clearly not.

I stoved grilled the tomatoes in a little bit of olive oil until they were blackened. Then I didn’t take a picture of that.

I smooshed the avocado + garlic with a fork and added lemon, salt, and pepper. SO GOOD.

Then I spread the guac onto the tomatoes. I suppose you can see the blackness on the tomatoes in this picture. Thanks for pointing that out, you snarky little minx.

Next blog post: Probably 3 weeks from now if I stay true to form. It’s summer, bitches.
